Some history on the church...
Ascension Lutheran Church, located at 827 Wildwood Ave, Columbia, SC was founded in 1912. The founders of this church, sought out the famous artist, George Hardy Payne to create truly awe-inspiring stained-glass windows. People tell of trips to Greece and the fabulous church artwork there, but there is a little-known, humble forgotten church in the Eau Claire Community with windows that will bring you to tears. The altar window and the many other windows that depict the Life of Jesus are made by Tiffany Glass Company.
Ascension is a historic gem for more than one reason. Reverend Jackie Utley shines a light as bright and as bold as the church’s windows. She made history as the first African American to be ordained in the Lutheran Church in South Carolina. History was also made again at Ascension, as…
